Jimmy O is not your typical motivational speaker, fitness coach, or trainer. He was born with a birth defect and has undergone 37 operations since age three. From 1981, he’s been battling against prostate and skin cancer. He has overcome prostate cancer and his doctors attributed this to his intense training and workouts.
While Jimmy was preparing for his first Senior Olympics, his physician Dr. Hawes informed him of his prostate cancer. “I was stunned,” he states. “I felt faint. The room started going round and round and I didn’t remember hearing anything else my doctor said.” A few days prior to his surgery he decided to continue to train but then slowly started to give up. Then he heard an inner voice “I thought you were a winner, a fighter!” So he refused to give up and continued to train and finished his first Senior Olympics with three gold medals. He relives that life-changing moment every day. Jimmy O carries over this passion to helping people with disabilities and cancer patients. On top of his personal workout regimens, he performs 15 classes a week made up of 10 “Balance your life” sessions and 5 pickleball classes. At age 80, he is a “retired” successful businessman, a highly acclaimed athletic and personal trainer, and a much-admired motivational speaker.
In 2010, Jimmy O was awarded Male Athlete of the Year by the West Michigan Sports Commission and became a recipient of the Charles T. Kuntzleman’s Governor’s Fitness Award. This eight-time gold medalist is competing in National Senior Games, State Games, Masters, and Senior Olympics. He is the founder of Hero Ball, SHORELINE SENIOR SPORTS, H.U.G.S., Balance Your Life, and First to the Finish Line. He has also authored a book and produced a DVD for people with disabilities.
